A textile collection to bring awareness to tactile sensibility.
The name I chose for my weaving project is Tactile reality, and the inspiration behind influenced my work in a very important way. It comes from reading and reflecting on Anni Albers’s text on Textile Sensibility from her book On Weaving. I was thinking a lot about the relevance of her words in today’s times, and I believe that her thinking is still very much relevant. I was mostly inspired by two of her quotes: “we touch to assure ourselves of reality, we touch the objects we love, we touch the things we form” and “tactility is observing with hands”.
Nowadays the digital world gives us a lot of opportunities for escaping the real world, virtual life is geJng bigger and bigger. But tactility is one of the principles that can help us ground and be present in the moment. That is why I chose to make a textile collection for the home. I wanted to create a safe space with prominent tactile properties that would give us an opportunity to choose tactile reality over the virtual one.
The product was created as a project assignment in the weaving course in the Swedish School of Textiles, University of Borås.
